Volta Region urged to arrest falling standards of education

Agbozume, Dec 9, GNN – Mr Fifi Kwettey, a Deputy Minster of Finance and Economic Planning, has called on students, parents and communities in the Volta Region to arrest the falling standards of education in the Region. He said unless the situation was changed it could have dire political, economic, social and developmental consequences for the region in particular and the country in general.

Mr Kwettey expressed the concern at the 25th anniversary of the Wisdom Children’s School, a private basic school at Agbozume. Mr Kwettey stressed that human resource is the greatest asset of the region for which reason the region could not afford to toil with education. “The greatest asset is not the gold, cocoa and of course not the new oil fields but the human being,” he said.

Mr Kwettey advised the youths to be ambitious and appealed to parents in the region to help mould their children for the future and make greater investments in their young daughters because quality women constitute invaluable assets in nation building. He commended the propriety and pupils of the school for chalking successes. The Rev Samuel Necku, the Proprietor, said the school was established in 1985 with few pupils and now has almost 1,000 pupils who have been performing excellently in the Basic Education Certificate Examination. 09 Dec 10
