Volta Region records less robbery in 2005

Ho, Jan. 28, GNA – The Volta Region has recorded 14 robbery cases last year, down from 30 incidents in the 2004, the Regional Police Command has reported.

According to the Regional Commander, Mr Emmanuel Ansong, the reduction was achieved through the cooperation and support for the police by the military and other security agencies. Mr Ansong was speaking at a police reception dubbed ‘WASSA’, which affords personnel the opportunity to take time off their daily rigorous routine to interact with one another and share working experiences. He said the Police cum military patrols in some crime-prone areas in the region such as Alavanyo-Nkonya, Peki-Tsito, Kete-Krachi and Dzodze were effectively managed last year.

However, the greatest challenge the Police in the region faced last year was the upsurge of highway robbery in the Dzodze area along the Ho-Aflao trunk road and Sadzimadza, near Agbozume on the Accra-Aflao Highway, he said, adding that October-November was the peak period. Mr Ansong expressed appreciation to the Regional Coordinating Council, particularly the Regional Minister Kofi Dzamesi, for helping the Police to sustain its operations.

He urged policemen to carry out their duty to standards and respect for human dignity as expected of them in a democratic society.
