‘Volta Region performance on District League Table demoralising’ – Minister

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, has expressed worry over the poor performance of municipal and district assemblies in the Region on the District League Table for the past two years.

He said their continuous placement at the bottom of the table was negatively affecting efforts of stakeholders.

Dr Archibald Letsa said this in an interaction with the media following his working tour of districts in the Region.

He said he was unhappy that an assembly from the Region came last again in the latest (2016) League Table and instructed them to factor indicators used in the ranking into their medium-term development plans.

Dr Letsa asked assembly members and staff to place importance on the resources allocated to them and ensure that corruption and other forms of funds mismanagement were stopped.

He asked the assemblies to engage all stakeholders and turn their poor performances around for the good of the people.

The District League Table is an independent tool for promoting social accountability. It is produced on an annual basis by UNICEF Ghana and the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The Krachi East Assembly came last (216th) in the latest ranking with Tema Metropolitan Assembly topping the Table.
