Volta Region Leads In Polio Immunization

Ho,(Volta Region) 16 Oct. The Volta Region recorded 92.5 per cent in the first round and 107.6 per cent in the second round of last year’s national mass polio immunization programme. The national figures for the same period were 87.4 and 95.6 per cent for the first and second rounds respectively. These were contained in a regional report on the exercise read at a meeting of the regional polio eradication committee members yesterday by Dr Joseph Amuzu, regional technical officer of the programme. The meeting was to evaluate last year’s performance in preparation for this year’s exercise scheduled for November eight and December 13. Lt-Col Charles Agbenaza (rtd), Volta regional minister who addressed the meeting, said the results for last year should spur members on to work harder this year. He said the polio immunization programme is necessary because its success will ”mean that costly hospital treatment and rehabilitation will no longer be necessary”.
