Volta Region could remain in political limbo for many years-Dzamesi

Kpeve (V/R), July 19, GNA – Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister on Tuesday said the region could remain in political limbo for many years to come, if the people continued to hold doggedly to their old political inclinations.

He said there was every reason for at least some of the people to see the good results from the policies being implemented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and join hands with it or at least pay cognisance to the achievements.

Mr Dzamesi was addressing a durbar at Kpeve, as part of his two-day official duty tour of the newly created South-Dayi District.

“The rational thing for people in the region was to walk in step with the rising sun and not cling to the sun that had long set,” the Minister said in reference to the continuing strong attachment of the people in the region to the minority National Democratic Cogress (NDC).

He said the government’s strategy for economic growth was

to pursue policies that would ignite the creative capacities of

Ghanaians to start or expand businesses to speed up growth. The Minister said government was also pursuing

interventions, such as the capitation grant, National Health

Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and NEPAD feeding programme for

school pupils to increase access to education and health. Mr Dzamesi said government would not countenance any

dubious deals with the feeding programme, which was at the

pilot stage. He expressed disappointment at the low turnout at the durbar

and wondered if it was out of spite of the government that had

carved out the area into a district for it to develop faster.
