Entrepreneur and politician John Paul Semavor has submitted his nomination to contest the position of Deputy Secretary in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional elections in the Volta Region.
A total of 36 candidates filed nominations before the deadline on Thursday, October 15. They include 29 men and seven women, with the elections scheduled for November.
Five candidates, including Semavor, are seeking the Deputy Secretary position. They are due to appear before the vetting committee on Saturday.
Speaking to 3News after submitting his nomination, Semavor said his experience in business made him well suited to the role.
“For the Deputy Secretary position, we need someone who understands the party structures, someone who has vast knowledge in office work, book keeping and someone with business sense to get it right,” he said.
Semavor said his background as an entrepreneur had given him experience that he could apply to the work of the party.
“I have an entrepreneurial background, I have run several businesses and I feel this is the time to bring my experience to bear on the party I so dearly love,” he added.
He also described the Deputy Secretary as an important link between the regional party administration and members at grassroots level.
He said: “I’m for the grassroots, I have gone across all 18 constituencies and what our people want is someone up there who listens to them, someone who helps resolve their concerns quickly.”
Semavor said his campaign was focused on ensuring the concerns of party members across the region reached the regional leadership and were addressed promptly.
Several senior NDC officials in the Volta Region have been returned unopposed after filing their nominations.
They include the party’s Regional Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor, and Regional Organizer, Siki Abibu. Regional Communication Officer Kafui Agbleze and his deputy, Bright Delali Kugbeadzor, have also filed unopposed.
The position of Deputy Regional Youth Organizer is among the other roles attracting significant competition, with five nominations submitted.
The nominations bring the total number of people seeking positions in the Volta Region NDC elections to 36. The next stage of the process is the vetting of candidates, beginning with the Deputy Secretary aspirants on Saturday.
