Volta ECG to move against illegal reconnections

Ho, Aug 29, GNA – Clients of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) who engage technicians to clandestinely reconnect their premises after being disconnected for non-payment of bills risk losing the services of the ECG if they fail to report the technicians for prosecution.

”We shall pursue such clients to clear their debts, prosecute them for the criminal act of by-passing ECG procedures and then curtail power to their premises until such a time that identities of those engaged for the job are revealed to us”, Mr Felix Fiebor, Volta Regional Director of the ECG, told the GNA in an interview.

Mr Fiebor said the policy was to check illegal reconnections that is increasing and change the attitude of consumers who take the ECG for granted.

Mr Theophilus A. Darku, Volta Regional Commercial Manager of the ECG, said about 70 per cent of the 80,000 consumers in the region used between 0-100 units every month.

”It means individual bills are not more than 50,000 cedis for every billing cycle,” he said.
