Volta chiefs asked to grant access to all political parties

Togbe Afede XIV, President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs on Thursday urged chiefs in the region to grant access to all political parties ahead of this year’s general election.

He asked them to be neutral and welcome all parties to their communities.

Togbe Afede said these when he welcomed Nana Obonbo Sewura Lupuruwa II, Paramount Chief of Akyode Traditional area in Nkwanta South District to the House as a new member.

“You must be independent and ensure that your conducts promote and cement our peace and democracy,” he stated.

Togbe Afede said the uniqueness of Ghana is linked to its growing democracy and asked traditional rulers to always work for peace and unity.

Togbe Afede expressed worry about renewed chieftaincy clashes in Sovie and called for concerted efforts for peace to prevail in the Region.

He appealed to members of the House to push for the development agenda of the House and help raise funds for projects, as well as the settlement of land and chieftaincy disputes.

Nana Obono earlier took the official oath, the oath of membership and secrecy administered by Justice Nicholas Charles Agbevor, Supervising High Court Judge of Ho, to participate fully in the House.

Nana Obonbo, 41, an Educationist, is known in private life as Mr Isaac Kofi Sewura.

He was enstooled as Paramount Chief of Akyode in 2013, and is often described as a prominent member of the Krachi Traditional Council.
