Vodafone organizes health screening for K’dua residents

Vodafone Ghana Foundation, a charitable arm of the Vodafone Telecommunication Company, has organized a health screening exercise for residents of the New Juaben Municipality in Koforidua, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The health screening exercise was intended to improve the health of people within the Municipality.

The beneficiaries had their blood pressure checked, as well as their eyes, ears, and teeth.

They were also screened on Tuberculosis, HIV, and educated on cleft palet and cleft lips, and given the assurance of free surgical operations, to be funded by the Foundation, to correct them.

Speaking to the media, Mrs Nana Yaa Ofori-Koree, Head of Vodafone Ghana Foundation, said over 5,000 people benefited from the free screening exercise last year which was the maiden edition.

She said over 2, 000 people had already benefited from the exercise this year in Greater-Accra, and that over 300 people in Koforidua were expected to be screened.

She said the screening indicated that many young people had developed high blood pressure, which she said needed the necessary attention.

Dr Philip Oppong-Twene, Medical Officer of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, said people with acute medical conditions which required further management, had been referred to the hospital.

He advised people to avoid smoking, taking in of excessive alcohol, and foods with high cholesterol, and to exercise at least twice a week .

The next Vodafone Foundation health screening exercise is expected to take place on August 1 at Esikado in the Western Region.
