Virgin clubs could prevent HIV/AIDS -Medical Officer

Abuakwa (Ash), April 12, GNA- A Medical doctor has stated that one of the best ways of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS was the formation of virgin clubs.

Dr Moro Azumah, in-charge of the Abuakwa Health Centre in the Atwima District, noted that the formation of virgin clubs would help create awareness on the dangers posed by the disease. He was speaking at a day’s workshop organised by the Atwima District Health Directorate for Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), traditional healers, voluntary health workers and opinion leaders at Abuakwa on Tuesday.

It had as its theme: “Case Definitions For Use In Community Surveillance”.

Dr Azumah said the disease was spreading at an alarming rate that there was the need to adopt pragmatic measures that would stop its spread.

Mrs Beatrice Appah, the Atwima District Director of Health Services, advised the participants especially the TBAs to refer all serious labour cases to the hospitals to avoid death of pregnant mothers. She further asked them to identify diseases and refer them to the hospitals.
