Vigilantism archaic – Jon Benjamin

There should be no vigilante or internal security group for any political party in this 21st Century, British High Commissioner to Ghana Jon Benjamin has said.

Mr Benjamin’s comment is in response to a tweet about his opinion on the latest attack by members of Delta Force on Mr George Agyei, who has been appointed by President Nana Akufo-Addo as the regional security coordinator.

The Delta Force members on Friday stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to stop Mr Agyei from performing his duties.

According to them, they cannot work with Mr Agyei since he did not play an active role in the 2016 campaign that brought the NPP into power.

Mr Benjamin, sharing his opinion on the development on Twitter, said: “As we’ve often said, in a 21st Century democracy there should be no party political ‘vigilante’ or ‘internal security’ groups”.
