Video: GBC falls for fake Thabo Mbeki death report

Rumors of the alleged demise of former South African President Thabo Mbeki spread quickly on Wednesday causing concern among fans across the world.

State broadcaster Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, is reported to have gone on air with the report without cross-checking their facts.

Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much-loved politician.

The news of Mr Mbeki’s death was first reported by plagiarized website http://t1meslive.co.za, similar to that of South African respected and credible website, http://www.timeslive.co.za.

It said, among other things, that Thabo Mbeki was pronounced dead on arrival at an unnamed hospital on Wednesday after a short illness.

The report added the former president had complained of sickness at dawn before his sudden demise.
