Victoria Hammah speech faux pas was sabotage – Mornah

The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah, says he suspects a “Director” or “somebody” at the Communications Ministry may have orchestrated Deputy Minister Victoria Hammah’s speech faux pas.

“Is there somebody at the Ministry; is there some Director at the Ministry that wants to do her in?” Mr. Mornah wondered.

According to Mr. Mornah, “somebody at the office must be taken on” for what happened to the Deputy Minister.

He alleged that: “…It was a deliberate thing”.

Ms. Hammah took a lot of flak on social media, after refusing to read an unedited speech at the launch of a campaign against Cyber Crime in Ghana.

She was captured on video expressing frustration about the swapping of her edited speech with an unedited one and thus decided to deliver her speech extempore after detecting the swap.

The video went viral on facebook, twitter and youtube, courting a deluge of criticism and mockery at her.

Some communications analysts say she could have handled the situation more tactfully without seeming exasperated and frustrated as she did at the public event.

Among her harshest critics is opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Berekum East in the Bono Ahafo Region, Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah, who says the president must give the deputy minister the boot for “displaying immaturity and incompetence”.

However, Bernard Mornah has described the calls for the deputy minister’s dismissal over the matter as unjustifiable.

He rather described Ms. Hammah as a “brave” person who deserved “commendation” for the manner in which she handled the situation.
