Victor Smith eulogizes Military for instilling peace and order

Mr Victor Emmanuel Smith, the Eastern Regional Care-Taker Minister, has eulogized the Security Services for their selfless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the country before, during and after the 2012 General Election.

He also praised them for their immense help, particularly in the Eastern Region for embarking on several operations to bring about peace, order and sanity in the region.

“In all sincerity, I have admired the good work the unit has executed in the region anytime they are called upon to tackle a challenge,” he stated.

Mr Smith gave the praise when addressing the IBN Infantry Battalion during their West African Security Social Activities (WASSA) celebration at Michel Camp near Tema.

He mentioned that the military’s dedication, vigilance and professionalism had helped the Eastern Region to chalk numerous successes.

Mr Smith elaborated that the unit’s remarkable roles played during “Operation Cow leg” at Kwahu Abetifi helped to clampdown on the negative activities of the Fulani herdsmen.

“Even though we still have ‘galamsey’ and chainsaw operators and dealers in the region, I must admit that your presence and show of force during swoops and patrol duties have helped to reduce activities of these unpatriotic citizens who are fast degrading our forests and polluting our water bodies,” he added.

Mr Smith also praised the military for curbing the spate of armed robbery in the region within the year, saying: “A lot of credit goes to officers and men of this unit for the effective and efficient manner in which you collaborated with the police to make ‘Operation Calm life’ successful.”

He however urged the security services to continue to remain disciplined, professional and focused in ensuring that Ghana is endeared to the international community as a true model of democracy and peace.

Lt. Col. Fredrick Denkyi Ntiri, Commanding Officer of the 1BN Infantry Battalion, pledged to offer their unflinching support to the state and the people of Ghana anytime the need arises, stressing, “We are ready and willing.”
