Victims of Ekumfi Narkwa disturbances receive government support

The Central Regional Minister, Ms Ama Benyiwa Doe, has appealed to Ghanaians to desist from politicizing every unfortunate incident that befalls the country.

She said instead of helping state agencies such as the Police, the Bureau of National Investigations and the Ghana National Fire Service to perform their duties to unearth the causes of incidents, some people preferred to score political marks with them.

“This will not help the nation to move forward,” she said; when she made a donation to victims of the Ekumfi Narkwa recent communal violence, which saw two people killed and many injured.

The Minister, accompanied by Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, National Disaster Management Organisation’s officials, the Police and Journalists; on behalf of the Government donated rice, maize, cooking oil, blankets, second hand clothes, roofing sheets, plastic bowls, buckets, cups and plates and cash to the victims.

The communal violence was a confrontation between the Fantes at Ekumfi Narkwa and Ewe settlers in the town following the murder of one Ebusuapenyin (Head of a Clan) of the town whose headless body was found buried in a shallow grave in his coconut plantation.

The Fantes suspected the Ewe settlers and went and burnt their houses.

Ms Benyiwa-Doe said if the people had exercised patient and allowd the Police to do their investigations, the lives of the two and properties destroyed would have been saved.

“We must not take the laws into our own hands when a problem arises,” the Regional Minister stressed.

She said as Ghanaians, everybody had the right to stay at any part of the country to do a legitimate work and urged people to be fair in dealing with issues.**
