Aflao, May 02, GNA – Doctors at the Aflao District Hospital have decided to suspend operation to remove bullets lodged in the bodies of two of the three persons hit by shots fired by Togolese soldiers across the frontier into Aflao last Tuesday.
The victims are King Cosmos, 28, and Mabel Ahedor, 13. Dr Kwesi Asare Bediako, Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital, was briefing Capt Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Mr Joseph Nayan, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, when they called at the hospital last Friday as part of their tour of the Aflao area to assess the security and refugee situation.
Dr Bediako said Linda Adonu, 10, the third victim, might have to undergo surgery for the removal of a bullet lodged in the right side of her head.
He said the victims have “deep-seated” bullets lodged in their bodies and any attempt to remove them might result in other complications.
“People have lived with bullets in their bodies since world war two without any problem,” he told the amazed ministers. Dr Bediako later told the Ghana News Agency that all the three victims have between one to three bullets each lodged in their bodies.
