Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, on Wednesday promised to leave a lasting legacy for his area, the Central Region.
He said improving education was a top priority of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and assured the people of his support towards improving the standard of education.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the promise when he met with the Central Regional House of Chiefs, in Cape Coast, as part of a day’s working visit to the region.
He observed that the region was endowed with resources, particularly human resource, and said he would support educational funds established to assist brilliant but needy students to complete school.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur asked the chiefs to support him, so that they could take advantage of opportunities government had envisioned for the region, to improve upon the people’s living conditions.
He assured the chiefs that government would consult them in formulating programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur gave the assurance that the region would get a fair share of the national cake, and appealed to the chiefs to help make the December elections peaceful, stressing that peace was a prerequisite for development.
Daasebre Kwabu Awusi VIII, President of the House, assured the Vice President that traditional rulers would promote peace.
Addressing party supporters later, the Vice President appealed to NDC sympathizers to undertake intensive campaign, to ensure a one-touch victory for the NDC in the December polls.
He advised students to take their studies seriously to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.
The vice president inaugurated an 18-unit classroom block, a sick bay, and a three-unit staff room, for the Ghana National College.
