Vice-Chancellors reaffirm position to promote tertiary education

Accra, June 14, GNA – The Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) had reaffirmed its position to act more effectively and in harmony to promote tertiary education in the country. In line with this objective, the CVCP would expand its role and programmes to enable it to play a more active role in advocating policy changes; enhancing national capacity; communicating the needs of higher education to the Government and other stakeholders.

This was contained in a six-point communiqu=E9 issued at the end of their retreat held at Agona Swedru from June 7 to June 9.

The communiqu=E9 said the CVPC would be working to position itself to make major contributions to tertiary education institutions as they responded to the challenges of the 21st century.

It would also ensure that tertiary education in Ghana met the high standard required in this globalised and highly competitive environment; facilitate cooperation among higher institutions and work to ensure collaboration and partnership in meeting its challenges.

The CVPC also adopted a new name – Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) – and urged the public to recognise them as such.
