Accra, March 3, GNA – Captain Nkrabeah Effah Dartey (rtd), Deputy Minister of The Interior-Designate, on Thursday said he would ensure that professionalism and discipline were brought to bear on the work of the security agencies under the Ministry of The Interior.
Capt. Effah Dartey, also Member of Parliament for Berekum, who was answering questions from the Appointment Committee, said he would assist in ensuring that officers and men working with agencies under the Ministry operated within the confines of the laws of the land. On recent increases in cases of armed robbery, the MP said there was the need to equip the Police Service to deal effectively with the social menace.
He called for a look into the service conditions of the Prison Service and said there was the need to also improve conditions at the prisons to ensure better service delivery and a healthy environment.
In answer to a question about the member’s involvement in visa racketeering as reported by a private paper, Capt. Effah-Dartey denied being involved in any visa trading and said he had instructed his lawyers to proceed with a legal case against the Editor and the paper for trading in falsehood and defamation.
In answer to a question about the fate of some former District Chief Executives, Capt. Effah Dartey, a former Deputy Minister of Local Government, said some legal actions had been instituted against two such former District Chief Executives, however, others who had still not received their end of service benefits might have to consult the Local Government Ministry on the matter.
