Koforidua, Sept 10, GNA – A new law would be enacted to transform the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) into an agency to be placed under the Ministry of Defence.
Commodore (Rtd.) Steve Obimpeh, Chairman for the National Council of the Association, who announced this, said the move was aimed at improving the welfare of the veterans in the country.
He said 93It would also honour and reward you for your selfless and sacrificial service you rendered to Ghana so that you would not live to regret ever serving the nation.”
Commodore (Rtd.) Obimpeh was addressing members of the Association in the Eastern Region on Thursday.
It formed part of his nationwide tour to familiarize himself with the members after taking office in February this year.
Commodore (Rtd.) Obimpeh assured members of the Association that distortions in their salaries would be corrected and would see to it that they did not pass through difficulties before accessing their pension.
He said that since ageing made members prone to various sicknesses, measures were being put in place to provide them with medication to complement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) they were benefiting from.
Commodore (Rtd.) Obimpeh called on Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Alex Asamoah, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive and the Omanhene of New Juaben, Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti-Boateng at their respective offices.
They pledged their support for the association.
