Vehicles for Police Service & Armed Forces

Accra, July 13, GNA- President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday appealed to Ghanaians to volunteer information and team up with the security agencies to protect the nation from miscreants. He condemned the spate of armed robbery and other criminal activities that had shown their ugly heads in some parts of the country, and called for collaborative efforts in the protection of life and property.

President Mills made the appeal at the presentation of vehicles to the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces in Accra. The Police Service was presented with 11 Mahindra pick-up vehicles, two trucks and one Eicher Mercedes Benz bus, being the first part of the 40 promised vehicles.

The Ghana Armed Forces were given seven Eicher Mercedes Benz buses, which would go to educational institutions in the Armed Forces. The presentation was in fulfilment to a promise the President made when he visited the Ministry of Defence, Burma Camp in Accra, three weeks ago.

President Mills urged the Police to use the vehicles to enhance their patrol operations, and increase surveillance in areas that were rife with armed robbery.

He recalled the campaign message of the Government of the National Democratic Congress to enhance security and ensure that people moved about freely.

He however advised the public to be on the alert and look out for people loitering and report them to the appropriate quarters. President Mills gave the assurance that Government would provide the military with the needed logistics to ensure that they are always battle ready.

Mr Paul Quaye, Inspector General of Police, said the Police were on top of the crime situation, and also appealed to the public to furnish the police with information on criminal activities.
