VEEP urges Ghanaians to eschew divisive tendencies

Bawku(U/E), April 07, GNA – Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has advised Ghanaians to eschew divisive tendencies and tolerate each other to ensure a united front for the nation’s socio-economic development. He said outstanding achievements of past leaders should rather inspire current leaders to serve the people in humility to inculcate patriotism among the youth.

Alhaji Mahama gave the advice when he joined the chiefs and people of Bawku to celebrate the 40th Day funeral rites of Mr Adam Amandi, First Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Constituency at Bawku on Thursday.

Mr Amandi, 87, who died in February this year, was a Founding member of the Northern People’s Party and a Deputy Minister of State during the Second Republic.

Alhaji Mahama noted that the late Amandi’s strong advocate for party unity and belief in liberal democracy and rule of law should serve as a unifying point to reunite activists, supporters and sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to regain its image in the area. He called on them to discard rumours and lies that affect the confidence and trust of the people to lend their support to the Government.

Nana Ohene-Ntow General Secretary of the NPP, was optimistic that the late Amandi’s death would serve as a reference point to reunite the party in the area.

Alhaji Mahama was accompanied by Mr. C.K Tedam and Mr. Francis Afoko, both members of the Council of State, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Harbours and Railways, Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, Dr Adombire Gyeshikah Agambilla, Deputy Minister of Science and Environment. The others were, Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister and Mr Boniface Gambila, Upper East Regional Minister.
