Veep lauds Sister City relations with the US

Accra, Feb. 28, GNA – Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Wednesday lauded the Sister-City initiative between Ghana and the US as beneficiary relations designed to reduce poverty and facilitate the objectives of the Millennium Challenge Goals.

Recollecting his experience as a former member of the Tamale-Louisville Sister City relations, Vice President Mahama said the cultural and economic benefits were tremendous.

He expressed these views when he interacted with a six-member delegation from Lauderdale in the Florida State of US who are forging a sister relationship with Agogo in the Ashanti Region. Vice President Mahama commended the delegation for masterminding the establishing of an Information, Communication and Telecommunication (ICT) Centre at Agogo.

He also commended the Paramount Chief of Agogo, Nana Akuoko Sarpong for his zeal in bringing development to his people, saying that was what government expected from traditional authorities. “As we work together we would realise our dream of prosperity for both sides,” he said.

Mr Arlon Kennedy of the Sister Cities International, who led the delegation said the Agogo ICT centre was the maiden cyber sister city relationship to be developed.

He said the visit of the delegation to Ghana had sealed a deal for the export of honey from Agogo to Florida.

The delegation he said had held a series of meeting with a number of ministries and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre for the development of active and positive relations with Ghana. Mrs Jo Mostowitz, a member of the delegation pledged the commitment of her company- Citrix Systems towards the holistic development of Agogo.
