Veep interacts with Regent of Dagbon

Yendi (N/R), Sept. 27, GNA – Vice President John Mahama on Saturday, called on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampaku Ya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani, to deliberate on measures being taken by the government to bring durable peace and justice to the troubled kingdom, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

The Dagbon area of the Northern Region has seen skirmishes since the overlord of the area, Ya Na Andani, was murdered alongside forty of his subjects in 2002, and the Vice President’s visit to Yendi was aimed at consolidating peace building measures that have been initiated by government to help thaw the feud. Vice President Mahama reiterated the commitment of the Mills’ administration to help find and prosecute those who carried out the heinous acts.

He said government has received some leads as to those who committed the acts and the dossier has been handed over to the appropriate security agencies for a thorough investigation to be taken on the matter.

The Vice president urged the elders of Dagbon to continue maintaining the peace, as government makes efforts to bring justice to the memory of the late King.

Mr Mahama also briefed them about steps being taken by government to help develop the area, assuring that, all promises made by the NDC during the elections would be fulfilled, to help enhance the living standards of the people.

Kampaku Ya Na Andani was satisfied with measures instituted by government in holding the peace in Yendi but encouraged it to keep a firm eye on the Chereponi by-election to ensure that no mayhem is caused there. 27 Sept. 09
