Veep interacts with Bolga Muslim community

Bolgatanga, July 27, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Friday called for unity and peaceful coexistence amongst the diverse ethnic groups in the three Northern Regions, saying it was an important step in the crusade against poverty.

Addressing the Muslim community in Bolgatanga after the Friday congregational prayer at the Central Mosque, Vice President Mahama stated that poverty knew no discrimination along ethnic or religious lines.

“Besides, whether you are a Moshie, Dagomba or Akan we are all Ghanaians so let each and everyone support our Government’s efforts to bring development to our communities,” he said. Vice President Aliu Mahama also urged Muslims to continue praying for stability and God’s blessings for the nation.

He said the primary concern of the people of the area should be about how they could generate wealth to improve their living standards, and urged them not to relent in the pursuit of knowledge.

Alhaji Awudu Yirimeah, outgoing Deputy Regional Minister, challenged Muslim parents to put the education of their children above every other consideration, to ensure a better life for the future generation.

Alhaji Yussif Adam, Regional Chief Imam, said prayers for the Head of State and members of government, and for the prosperity of Ghana. Vice President Aliu Mahama is in Bolgatanga to attend a grand durbar on Saturday, of Paramount chiefs from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, during which he and other selected illustrious citizens of the North would be honoured in recognition of their contributions to the development of the area.
