Veep has qualities to lead NPP to victory

Obuasi, Nov. 08, GNA – Mr George Ayisi-Boateng, a Leading Member of New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama was a morally upright and respectable personality who had the qualities to lead NPP to victory in the 2008 elections.

He said the party’s main goal was to retain power in 2009 and Alhaji Mahama possessed the ability to fulfil that goal.

Speaking to newsmen at Obuasi as part of the campaign strategy to support Alhaji Mahama’s bid for the NPP flag bearer in December 22, Mr Ayisi-Boateng said, “the Vice President has the charisma to attract floating voters for the NPP”.

He pointed out that Alhaji Mahama respected the rule of law and would not be involved in any action during and after December 22 to bring the country into disrepute.

“Alhaji Mahama is a unique personality who believes in the rule of law, respect directives given by the party and above all, respects the constitution of the land and therefore would provide a leadership that would guarantee a stable government,” he added. Mr Ayisi-Boateng, one of the campaign coordinators for Alhaji Mahama said, so far, he had ensured clean, pure and friendly campaign. “Our campaign has not centred on attacking personalities but a humane appeal to the conscience of the delegates to vote for Alhaji Mahama as the right choice,” he stressed. “Supporters and sympathisers of Alhaji Mahama aware of his value, principles and character would also respect and not attack personalities in our campaigns,” Mr Ayisi-Boateng added. The campaign coordinator said so far responses from party members had been assuring but would not rest on their oars until victory was achieved. “We are not going to rest on our oars until Alhaji Mahama is elected the flag bearer,” he said. On the issue that Alhaji Mahama was using state machinery for the campaign, Mr Ayisi-Boateng said that perception was wrong because as a Vice President, the constitution guaranteed that right and privilege.
