Veep complains about undue delay of govt projects

Accra, Aug. 17, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Friday expressed dissatisfaction about the apathetic attitude some contractors had adopted towards the implementation of Government projects, which, he said was leading to undue delay of such contracts.

He said he had received so many complaints about such delays anytime he undertook official visits to the countryside. Vice President Mahama made this known when he met with Mamaga Ametor III, Paramount Queen Mother of Alavanyo Traditional Area on Friday at the Osu Castle, who complained about the slow pace of work on the tarring of Alavanyo-Nkonya road.

He promised to intervene personally to facilitate the fast tracking of the project.

Vice President Mahama used the meeting to commend the chiefs and people of Alavanyo for ending the bloody protracted conflict with their counterparts in Nkonya, which, he said, had led to peace, stability and development.

“I am happy that you have laid down your arms and looking forward towards development,” he said.

He said the conducive atmosphere would facilitate efforts of Government to open up the place for rapid development. Mamaga Ametor lauded efforts of the ruling New Patriotic Party to broker peace between the belligerent factions. She said the area, which used to be a business hub of the Volta Region and the bread basket of the Hohoe and Kpando districts suffered immensely due to the conflict.

“The conflict had a very devastating effect on the human resource of the area,” she said.

Mamaga Ametor appealed to the government to provide a clinic for the traditional area and extend micro credit facilities to the people to help alleviate poverty.
