Veep commends Canada

Accra, July 7, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Friday acclaimed the development assistance Canada was offering to Ghana, saying in recent times the tremendous package has been more evident in the agricultural sub-sector.

He recalled the 19.1 million-dollar debt cancellation Canada offered to Ghana when the country reached the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) completion point and the landmark development projects the Canadian International Development Assistance programme extended to the Northern, Upper East and West regions. Vice President Alhaji Mahama was speaking at the Osu Castle, when the Canadian High Commissioner, Mr Donald Bobiash called on him to bid him farewell after a four-year duty tour.

He praised Mr Bobiash for his untiring efforts in touring the length and breath of the country to assess at first hand the needs of the people in order to extend the needed assistance to them. ” I am not too happy that you are leaving but I hear you are being posted to Japan and I know you will be our second Ambassador to that country,” he said.

Mr Bobiash said he had seen tremendous development in Ghana during his duty tour, adding that although he was leaving, Canada would still be at the side of Ghana in her development strides.
