Veep assures Police of government’s determination to resource them

The Vice President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has assured the Ghana Police Service of government’s determination to resource them to enable them effectively police the citizenry.

According to the Vice President, government is aware of the many challenges facing the service in the performance of their duty and indicated government’s preparedness to make more investment in the sector.

The Vice President made this known at the 2012 Get-Together of the Ghana Police service West African Security Service Activities (WASSA) for the Police formation in Accra.

The event which is organized annually by the service, had to be re-scheduled for March 1, 2013, due to last year’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur commended the Ghana Police Service for the professional manner they conducted themselves during last year’s polls.

He said Ghana today is peaceful due to the critical role personnel of the service played across the country in ensuring that the 2012 General Election was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

The Vice President however reminded the service of the daunting task that lies ahead of them this year.

He said security continues to be a major challenge and urged the service to be on the alert to deal with threats of whichever form.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur used the occasion to congratulate personnel of the service who have distinguished themselves at various levels of their operations over the last year and urged them not to be complacent; rather they should continue to work hard for the good of the country.
