Veep Amissah-Arthur to attend funeral of late Ethiopian PM

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur is to attend the funeral of the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Ato Meles Zenawi, who would be buried next Sunday in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learned on Thursday from the Office of the Vice President that he would be representing the Government and People of Ghana at the funeral.

He is expected to leave on Saturday.

The trip would be his first assignment outside Ghana since his inauguration as Vice President.

The Vice President had earlier on Wednesday expressed Ghana’s condolence to the people of Ethiopia on the death of late Premier, describing him as a dynamic and progressive leader.

“The people of Ghana share in the grief of the people of Ethiopia in the untimely passing of a dynamic and progressive leader who brought political stability and economic progress to his people,” the Vice President wrote in a Book of Condolence opened at the Residency of the Ethiopian Embassy in Accra.

Leaders from around the world are expected to attend the burial ceremonies of the late Prime Minister.

Late Prime Minister Zenawi died in a hospital in Brussels on August 20, 2012 after leading the East African nation for 21 years.
