VE people enact escape from Notsie’s wall at Golokuati in the Volta Region

The Chiefs and people of the Ve Traditional Area, in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, have choreographed their escape through the fortified Notsie wall in neighboring Togo around 1620.

The enactment was attended by thousands of citizens and dignitaries from all walks of life.

Even though Ve is one of the fast-growing jurisdictions in the region, it continues to record abysmal pupil performance at the BECE, and dropouts. In view of this, the people used this year’s observance of the Lukusi Dodoleglime festival to – among other things – launch an education fund to promote quality education and improve pupil retention in school. The overlord of Ve, Torgbuiga Delume VII, thanked sons and daughters for their contributions to the development of the area.

The festival was also used to showcase the rich cultural values and traditions of the people of Ve, who formed part of the larger Ewe group that migrated from Notsie around 1620 to their present home.

Volta Regional Minister Archibald Yao Letsa, who led a high-powered government delegation to this year’s celebration, commended the people for the education fund initiative, urging them to take advantage of current policies to improve their lot in agriculture.

The festival was under the theme, ‘Partnering with Government: The Key to Sustainable Development’.
