VALD holds meeting on Nima market upgrading

Accra, Sept. 18, GNA – Mr Issah Ali, Executive Director of the Vision for Alternative Development (VALD), a non-governmental organization, has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to help upgrade the Nima and Mamobi markets.

He said the upgrading of the two markets would not only earn more revenue for the Assembly but improve the living standards of the people in the two communities.

Mr Ali made the call at a meeting with market women associations at Nima on Thursday, It was organized by VALD in collaboration with Legal Resource Centre, an NGO and the European Union.

Mr Ali expressed the hope that the upgrading of the markets and the springing up of commercial banks in the two communities would help improve on the standards of living of the people. He deplored the activities of estate developers who had encroached the land earmarked for the market and asked the Assembly to act immediately to stop them.

Alhaji Abdul Razak, Ayawaso East Chairman of the National Democratic Congress appealed to the people to tackle sanitation problems in their localities.

Mrs Mariam Salifu, President of Mothers Club, an NGO appealed to the AMA to provide the communities with more toilet facilities which was the major problem facing the communities.
