VALCO Fund donates Pick-Up to Eikwe Hospital

Eikwe (W/R), July 11, GNA – The VALCO Trust Fund has donated a pick-up vehicle costing 167 million cedis to the Saint Martin De Porres Hospital at Eikwe in the Nzema East District.

The donation is in response to an appeal by authorities of the hospital for support to ease transportation problems facing the hospital that is the only health facility for the people of the area. Mr Amelema Nokoe, the Managing Trustee of VALCO Trust Fund, on Friday presented the vehicle to the hospital at a ceremony at Eikwe and said it would help to enhance health service delivery in the area. He said much as the Fund saw the overwhelming need for an ambulance as requested by the hospital, this could not be met due to financial constraints.

Two years ago the Fund completed a five-year programme to provide each of the 110 district hospitals with laboratory and theatre equipment worth 2.2 million US dollars.

Mr John Mawah, the Executive Director of Health in charge of the Western Regional Diocesan Health Services of the Catholic Church, received keys to the vehicle.

He thanked VALCO Trust Fund and appealed for more support from individuals and organizations to enhance the operations of the hospital. Rev Sister Gabriele Kothe, Medical Director in charge of the hospital, said in spite of many constraints the staff had been working hard to provide quality medical care for the people.
