Wa, August 17, GNA – Alhaji Issahaque Salia, Upper West Regional Minister, has asked district and municipal assemblies to set benchmarks for decentralised departments and monitor their performance to achieve set goals
e said government relies on the achievements of their set targets to
improve on the living standards of the people and also win the people’s power to continue to implement its good policies and programmes.
Alhaji Salia said this when he paid a courtesy on members of the Wa Municipal Assembly, heads of decentralised departments and civil society organisations in Wa on Monday to introduce himself to the people.
He said Ghanaians would assess the performance of the government in the 2012 elections and noted that the failure or otherwise of the elections would depend largely on the achievements of the various government departments, agencies and services.
He therefore urged heads of departments, agencies and services to be more committed to their work and let the people “feel in them that their lives and other circumstances had improved”.
Alhaji Salia advised them to avoid political biases and other considerations at workplaces and provide good ideas and active support to the government to implement its development policies and programmes successfully.
He said decentralised departments were stakeholders of the assemblies and that the achievements of the assemblies depend largely on their good work.
Alhaji Salia was not happy with the indiscipline regarding motorbikes management in the Wa Municipality and urged the authorities to collaborate to help reduce accidents.
He urged members of the Wa Municipal Assembly to work and improve sanitation and the indiscriminate location of structures in the area.
Mr. Duogu Yakubu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive, pledged the support of the assembly to help Alhaji Salia to address the developmental challenges of the region.
He said the assembly had been able to provide two small towns pipe projects at Busa and Charia at a cost of 1,124,763.00 Ghana Cedis after government had scrapped the counterpart contribution by beneficiary communities which held back work on the projects for five years.
He said there had also been massive infrastructure and improvement in the road network in the municipality.
