Utilise services of volunteer tourist guides-Board

Nkoranza (B/A) June 17, GNA – The Ghana Tourist Board has asked communities with tourist attractions to employ volunteers to serve as tour guides in the management of their tourist centres.

Mr. Seth Joshua Asah, Assembly Member for Manso in Nkoranza district made the call when briefing Ghana News Agency about a workshop organised by the Board in Accra for selected opinion leaders from communities with tourist centres. He explained that the tour guides would lead tourists to the various sites and encourage more people to visit.

The Assembly Member said his community, formerly called “Bono Manso”, was the capital of the ancient Bono Kingdom, which was also one of the slave trade centres, had been recognized as a tourist centre. With the help of the Savanna Art on Civilization, an NGO, a village has been established at Manso in memory of the late

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jnr., African American hero and pivotal civil rights leader.

Mr. Asah called on community leaders in Nkoranza who own tourist centres to maintain them well to attract more visitors. He mentioned the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, Bono-Manso slave market centre, Dandwa waterfalls and the Goitre healing spring at Senya as tourist centres in Nkoranza disrict.

The Assembly Member appealed to the Assembly to design measures to develop the newly explored tourist centres in the district to promote the development of the district. Fetish priests and priestesses capable of healing chronic diseases, which are challenges to medical doctors, should publicise their shrines so they could be recognized as tourist centres.
