USS Nashville arrives at Sekondi Naval Base

Sekondi Feb. 21, GNA – USS Nashville, a US Naval Ship, on Friday arrived at the Sekondi Naval Base for a 19-day official visit. The visit of the naval vessel forms part of the Africa Partnership Station (APS), an international security initiative, led by US Naval Forces in Europe aimed at strengthening global maritime partnership through training and other collaborative activities to improve maritime safety and security in Africa.

Captain Cindy Thebaud, Commander of APS on USS Nashville told the press at the Sekondi Naval Base that, training under the APS is conducted at the request of partner countries. She said the military training, such as engineering, small boat handling and a handful of speciality areas would be conducted by military officers and civilian specialists from 20 different countries. Captain Thebaud said seminars, workshops and hands-on training would be conducted with Ghanaian sailors, including sessions on port security planning, small boat maintenance, medical training, search and rescue training and oceanographic methods. She said staff of the ship would undertake community projects and make donations to some educational institutions during the visit.
