USIS Presents Manual Stenograph Machines To The Judiciary

Accra (Greater Accra) 21 May, ’98 The United States Information Services (USIS) today presented four manual stenograph machines worth 4,000 dollars to the Judiciary to assist in modernizing the court reporting technique. The machines, which can type about 160 words a minute, were presented to the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Isaac Abban by Ms Sylvia Mackebon, Associate Consular of the American Embassy. Ms Mackebon said she contacted the Stenograph Corporation in Chicago, US, which are the main manufacturers of the machines and told them about the Ghanaian situation and the corporation responded by sending the machines. She said she has trained four Ghanaian studnets from the courts who now own their own manual machines and can type about 80 to 90 words a munite. Mr Justice Abban thanked Ms Mackebon for her assistance and said after the new system is well established in Accra, it will be extended to the regions. He advised the students to take their work seriously to make the work of the Judiciary a success. gri
