Agona Kwanyako (C/R), Aug. 29, GNA – Dr Joseph Arkoh, Senior Lecturer at the English Department of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has called on choristers to use music to unite people to ensure peace and tranquillity.
He said “the duty of a chorister is to ensure that the song he or she sings bring peace and development to the community where the church is situated”. Dr Arkoh made the call when he addressed the annual general meeting of the Agona Swedru Catholic Choir Union at Agona Kwanyako in the Agona East District of the Central Region. The members were drawn from Gomoa Akropong, Gomoa Aboso, Akroful, Agona Swedru, Gomoa Ekwamkrom, Gomoa Jukwa, Agona Nsaba, Gomoa Benso, and Gomoa Abonyi.
He noted that “every chorister must be a prophet of God”, Let your music be a prophecy that could change life style of the society. Dr Arkoh said that the life styles of some Christians posed serious threats and created division among families, break marriages and hatred both in the church and outside it. He explained that choristers must stop acts that will tarnish the image of Christendom, sing song that could heal the sick, inspire, and give hope to the hopelessness in society. Dr Arkoh urged them to stop all jealousies and litigations among choristers, to enhance the promotion of the word of God and develop gospel music.
Mr Frank Kwesi Ocran, President of the Swedru Catholic Choir Union said the meeting afforded members the opportunity to take stock of the previous year’s activities and make amends in the years ahead, to promote the development of music and the word of God. Mr Ocran who is also the Assemblyman for Ofoase/Zongo Electoral Area at Agona Kwanyako said the union has taken measures to improve the living standards of its members.
He said appealed to the members not to use singing to dabble in politics and urged them to vote for a person who can take the country “to the promise land”.
