Use democracy to promote peace in Dagbon – Prince Baba-Alhassan

Prince Abdulai Baba-Alhassan, Executive Director of the Foundation for Reconciliation and Democracy (FORDEM), has appealed to the people of Dagbon to accept democracy as the best tool to promote peace and justice in Dagbon.

He said in order to build Dagbon, Dagombas must work hard to defend democracy at all course, adding that such a system could not be sustained in an atmosphere of crime and injustice, and urged all citizens of Dagbon to join hands to promote a democratic culture.

Prince Baba-Alhassan made the appeal during an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday.

He said Dagombas must work as one people in a global community to establish good democratic governance in every sphere of Dagbon to protect their cultural values.

Mr. Baba-Alhassan said institutions that were at the fore front of promoting peace and justice could not stand alone, but must genuinely collaborate cohesively to transform the livelihood of women, children and all people of Dagbon by promoting good health, quality education and good environmental practices.

He noted that Dagbon is a powerful democratic kingdom that needed strong institutions to spearhead its developmental programmes, adding “Dagbon has the oldest democracy in global politics but have been usurped by chieftaincy crisis. Dagbon has been in existence since the sixteen century.”

Prince Baba-Alhassan called on civil society groups, religious organisations, Dagbon chiefs, journalists, Dagbon students’ union and Dagbon business executives to remain proactive in their fight against crime and injustice in Dagbon kingdom.**
