USAID provides potable water to Ntankoful

The Global Communities, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), have handed over a $250,000 Small Town Water Project to the Ntankoful Community in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis towards improving hygiene and sanitation in the area.

The small town water system involve the mechanization of a borehole water source, and a concrete water storage tank, which allows distribution to six public water stand pipes situated at strategic locations within the community.

Mr. Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister for Water Resources Works and Housing, who inaugurated the facility, said the poor continue to pay high tariffs in terms of water supply but the Government was committed to ensuring that water coverage improved by 2025.

He said access to quality water supply had increased to 81 per cent.

The Deputy Minister lauded Global Communities for the intervention to provide safe water to the Community.

He, therefore, entreated the managers of the facility to properly manage it to ensure that it lasted.

Mr. James Bever, USAID Mission Director, who was crowned a development chief, for his role in providing the potable water facility, urged the community to cooperate and pay the approved tariffs.

He said the American people were committed to solving social problems and would continue to work to bring smiles to deprived communities.

Captain RTD Anthony Cudjoe, Metropolitan Chief Executive, while extending his gratitude to the benefactors of the project, said it would help improve sanitary conditions in the area.

He said the Government would continue to work with local and international development agencies to advance the cause of the ordinary Ghanaian.
