As the population of Ghana grows rapidly with a rate of 700,000 people each year, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Population Council have collaborated to manage population growth, reduce poverty, and achieve national development goals.
According to the Population Reference Bureau 2015, the population of Ghana hit 27 million in 2015 and is rising rapidly at a rate of 700,000 people every year – one of the fastest rates in the world. That translates into seven million people every decade. At that rate, Ghana’s population will be 60 million people by 2050.
In view of this, the USAID and NPC have teamed up to deal with the corresponding demand of the growing population.
The US Embassy in Accra posted on its official Facebook page: “USAID collaborates with the National Population Council to address the importance of managing rapid population growth, reduce poverty, and achieve national development goals.
How can we ensure that our population growth rate is sustainable with respect to our available resources, both natural and economic?”
