USAID commended for its support to the deprived areas

Nkoranza (B/A), Nov 14, GNA- Mr. Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education has commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other donor agencies for their support to quality education and training in the country.

Mr Agyeman-Badu who was addressing a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting of the Methodist Primary and Junior Secondary Schools at Nkoranza expressed appreciation to USAID for constructing a six-classroom block each for three communities in the district under the Government’s Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) Project.

The beneficiary schools are Bonsu Methodist Primary, Nkoranza Methodist Primary and the Pinihe Roman Catholic Primary. He called on the teachers in the schools to work hard to justify investment made by the donors.

Mrs. Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, a Programme Officer of the Community School Alliances (CSA) programme under the QUIPS project, deplored the negative attitude by some parents to shirk their responsibilities of looking well after their children.

She advised parents to reduce huge expenses made on funerals, and resource their children’s education.

Reverend Alexander Addae, local manager of Nkoranza Methodist schools, urged parents to visit the schools regularly to interact with the teachers about their children’s performance and encourage teachers to work harder.

Rev. Addae, who is also the Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Nkoranza Circuit of the Church, advised parents to monitor the movements of their children after school hours and guide them from bad peer groups.
