The University Students Association of Ghana(USAG) has given the Electoral Commission a May 12, deadline to address their concerns raised about the limited registration exercise, else face a lawsuit.
The leadership of the Association are peeved that a small student population were able to register in the just ended limited registration due to some inadequacies characterised with the process, hence the call to roll out the exercise again on their various campuses to enable more register.
President of the Association, Henry Nkosuo Boakye who spoke to Kasapa FM said the EC must hasten to respond to the issues raised in its petition forwarded to the election management body or face the consequences that will arise from their decision in the next two days.
“We expect that the EC will listen to us and extend the process for us on our various campuses. The timing for us was wrong as we were compelled to go and form long queues to register with just one registration centre for instance on the Legon campus. When we complained about this, the EC was able to open just two centres in addition to the existing one with about two days to end the exercise. Ideally not less than 28 centres should have been created for such exercise- and this has disenfranchised many on our campuses,” Henry told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa.
Many eligible voters and political party activists in the country have called on the EC to extend the period of registration for the just ended limited registration exercise.
The exercise ended yesterday with many expressing dissatisfactions with the limited time allocated for the process.
