US offers assistance on energy crisis.

21 May 1998 The US is to provide a 67 million-dollar guarantee for the GNPC-Westinghouse barge mounted gas to electricity project and has promised a further 50 million dollars to finance a combine cycle generation compliment. It will in the first phase generate 130 megawatts rising to 300 by the end of the century. The US is also to provide technical assistance to Ghana’s regulatory bodies, co-ordinate financial arrangements to secure finance for American companies in the energy sector and will send 30 megawatts generators to back supplies to hospitals and other installations. A defence department team will be in Ghana from 26th May – 5th of June to assess the situation and report back to Washington for the generators to be sent.
