A TEAM OF medical experts in the United States Navy, currently in the country, is undertaking a short Recce Medical Outreach exercise in several Shai communities.
With its headquarters at Dodowa, the team, led by Captain Mike Shannon of the US Navy will render free medical services mainly in immunization, dentistry and eye tests in and around Ayikuma, Agormeda, Doryumu, Kordiabe, Akorle, Afienya and Dodowa.
This was disclosed at the first ordinary session of the Dangme West District Assembly held at the assembly premises last Wednesday.
Explaining the mission of the team to the house, Group Captain (Dr) Laryea of the 37 Military Hospital, who was also the head of a two-man Ghanaian team working hand-in-hand with the Americans, hinted that the exercise was originally slated for the Northern Region (precisely Tamale), but had to be shifted elsewhere for obvious reasons.
He, therefore, called on the assembly, people and GPRTU to co-operate with the team for as long as the exercise lasts.
Receiving the team, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. K. T. K. Agban, assured the house of his personal co-operation and assistance, and expressed the hope that the team will enjoy the hospitality of the people and derive maximum fun from the beautiful beaches, waterfalls, forests, game resorts, monuments like the Guggisberg Memorial Hall and the rich cultures that abound in Shai land.
He gave a short r?sum? of the history of the people and said the district covers about 45% of the Greater Accra Region in terms of land space.
For his part, the Presiding Officer of the Assembly, Prof. J. S. Djangmah, appealed for the establishment of what he called community colleges in the area.
Present were Mr. A. K. Agblewornu, District Co-ordinating Director, Nene Kodjatey III (known in private life as Chief Petty Officer Class One Bright Narh) and honourable assembly members.
