The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has described the US invasion of Iraq as a recipe for terrorism, world chaos and a sin against God and Humanity.
It said the action is not only unfortunate but also a stab in the back of analysts who treated the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war as a victory for democracy and rule of law.
The President of NUGS, Mr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah said this at a press conference in Accra. He said whilst many feel that the hegemony the senior Bush sought to create collapsed under Bill Clinton, Junior Bush, some Governments, Political commentators and people from selfish ideological persuasions have justified and fortified this hegemony.
The NUGS President said the result is the “treasonable war” being fought now in Iraq.
He said although the NUGS is not against the idea of disarmament, it is diametrically opposed to any attempt that undermined the integrity of the United Nations (UN) such as what America has done. Mr Boamah said it is worth noting that liberty would not descend to people but rather, people must raise themselves to liberty. He said it is a blessing that must be earned before it can be enjoyed so that those who give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporal safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. He urged all peace loving governments and people to speak against the war.
