US Government invites Sammy Awuku

A Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Sammy Awuku, has been invited by the United States government to participate in the American Council for Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) programme, which is expected to be held in the United State.

Mr. Awuku, as a guest of the United State government, is expected to arrive in Washington DC on Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 and return to Ghana on Sunday, September 22, 2013.

A letter signed by the Head of Cultural Affairs at the US Embassy in Ghana, Madam Traci Meli, and sighted by the Ghanaian Observer (GO) newspaper said during the professional exchange, Mr. Awuku will have the opportunity to meet, learn and share ideas with counterparts in the United States of America with other participants from Kenya, South Africa and Namibia.

“I hope that your participation in this programme will help equip you with new ideas as a young political leader,” the letter further stated.

Participants in the ACYPL programme are selected from among young professionals who are making great strides towards the strengthening of democracy in their countries and who also have the potential to make even greater contributions in the future.

This year’s ACYPL program will be a fellows program, in which delegates will receive a week long overview of the federal government in Washington DC, followed by the weeklong internship in a local political, advocacy or policy making.

Meanwhile, GO has gathered that this is the first time any Ghanaian is participating in the programme.
