US Embassy Clarifies Guard Contract

The American Embassy in Accra has denied media reports that it is changing its guard contract with Intercon because of “misconduct.”

In a statement released in Accra yesterday, the Embassy stressed that to ensure a competitive process in its security arrangement, the process for guard services is reviewed every five years.

The release said Intercon won the contract for 1996-2001 and Safetech was the successful bidder for the next five-year contract.

The release further emphasised although Safetech company will assume guard services beginning in 2002, the change has nothing to do with any “misconduct” by Intercon.
