Kumasi, Nov. 5, GNA – A medical team from the U.S-based Children’s Right International (CRI) in collaboration with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), have begun a screening exercise for the treatment of children with facial deformities and orthopaedic problems. The team made up of doctors, nurses and paediatricians will spend two days on the screening exercise before performing free surgeries on Monday.
Welcoming the team to the hospital in Kumasi on Friday, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of the KATH, said the hospital intended to establish a cleft clinic and hoped the exercise would speed up the process for its establishment.
He commended the team for assisting the children and said the hospital would give all the needed support to ensure the success of the exercise.
Dr Peter Donkor, Head of Surgery at KATH, said facial deformities which were hitherto, perceived as incurable could now be corrected through surgery.
Dr Sue Schacht, leader of the U.S team, said the exercise was to enable the affected children regain their natural facial look. She said the exercise was a humanitarian gesture by CRI to provide comfort to the affected children and their families.
