THE GHANA EMBASSY IN CONJUCTION WITH THE HARAMBEE AFRICA INTERNATIONAL AN NGO ORGANIZED A FUNDRAISER AT THE GHANA EMBASSY IN WASHINGTON D.C

The Embassy of Ghana in conjunction with Harambee Africa International an NGO and her partners recently held a fundraising event at the Embassy auditorium to help raise funds to provide mobile clinics for Ghana in particular and other African countries.

In a goodwill message read on her behalf by Ambassador Fritz Poku H.E. Mrs. Theresa Kufuor , First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, and current Chairperson of the West Africa Organization of African First Ladies against AIDS(OAFLA). She expressed solidarity for work of Harambee Africa International. She further commended both the Ghana Embassy and Harambee Africa International for laudable efforts in organizing the fundraiser.

His Excellency Ambassador Fritz Poku in his welcome address, alluded to the staggering and debilitating impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa and else where in the world and referred to the tremendous contributions being made by United Nations, the United States of America and the world in general to combat it. He noted that this concerted effort will in no doubt assist greatly in confronting the HIV/AIDS menace

The President of the Harambee Africa International, Ms Sheila Kibuka expressed her appreciation for the strong support and encouragement received in connection with the Harambee Africa International ?Big 5 Initiative Mobile Clinics Project. ?These mobile clinics are expected to provide avenues for rural areas to access health facilities which most invariably are beyond their reach simply because of their location in the urban areas.

Present at the event were Mr. Joel Segal, staff officer from the office of the Congressman Mr. John Conyers and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Harambee Africa International, Dr Ken Peters, President of Globalemed, Mr Jim Kitch Vice President of American Dental Industries, Mr. David Gardner, President of Global AIDS, Diplomats and many individuals including a great Ghanaian drummer Nana Frimpong who graced the event with smooth indigenous Ghananaian tunes.
